Peabody falls in field hockey

The Danvers field hockey team remained unbeaten on Thursday as it took a hard fought 2-1 win over Peabody at Donahue Field.”It really was a great game,” Danvers coach Barbara Damon said. “It was very well played. Both officials said afterwards that it was the best game they’d seen all year.”The teams played an even first half until Seth Kamens gave Danvers a 1-0 lead with 5:00 left, assisted by Sarah Potter. The Falcons (6-0) began to assume control in the second half and they doubled the lead with 6:00 left as Potter was set up by Ashley Attaya.That goal proved to be huge as the Tanners’ (3-1-1) Elena Warren scored with 2:30 left but Peabody couldn’t pull even.Marblehead 4, Salem 0At Bertram Field in Salem, Maggie Forbes, Brittany Keroack, Abby Nye and Dari Callinan each had a goal for the Magicians (3-1-1)Fenwick 6, Everett 0At Fenwick, Grace Celona scored two goals, Colleen Sears had a goal and two assists, and Hannah Bethune had a goal for the 3-1-1 Crusaders.Two girls scored their first-ever varsity goals: Amalia Crawford and Kelsey Wilkinson.Swampscott 6, Malden 0At Swampscott, Cody Kline scored a goal and two assists as the Big Blue evened their record at 2-2.Also scoring for Swampscott were Tori Thistle, Alexis Steriti (with an assist from Kate Samiljan), Julianne Marquis (from Georgia Polemenakos) and Lisa Vu.On Vu’s goal, goalie and captain Nicki Gioiosa was repositioned on the field and picked up the assist. Polemenakos scored Swampscott’s final goal.VOLLEYBALLLynnfield 3, N. Andover 0At Lynnfield, in “one of our toughest matches of the season,” according to Michelle Perrone, the Pioneers (5-0) slugged it out in straight sets (25-18, 25-14, 25-21).Senior Julie Goldstein had 10 kills and six digs, and Abby Norwood had 17 assists, three aces and seven digs.No. Reading 3, Peabody 1At Peabody, Carolyn Scacchi had 12 kills for the Tanners (1-4), who also had strong games from Katie Kelley and Amanda Martin.
