SALEM – An Essex County grand jury reviewing cases handed up a rash of indictments against a Revere felon who allegedly stabbed and threatened his girlfriend and her friend in her Witt Street home in Lynn this summer while her young children witnessed the attack.Michael Curley, 30, of 22 Rose St., Revere, stands charged with three counts of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, six counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, four counts of threatening to commit a crime to kill as well as resisting arrest and being a habitual offender. The charges arise out of an incident on or about Aug. 16 at 25 Witt St., when Curley allegedly beat a female friend of his girlfriend with a bat, struck his girlfriend with a table and stabbed both women as he threatened them with a knife and bat while threatening to kill them.Curley’s girlfriend told police he had gone out drinking with her friend earlier that evening and when he returned he allegedly began making rude comments which escalated into an uncontrollable rage following an argument. The girlfriend told authorities while she and Curley were arguing, he went into a rage, picked up a folding table and smashed it in her face as he began to choke and stab her.The girlfriend, who had gone out with Curley earlier that evening, tried to intercede and jumped on Curley, but ended up also being choked and struck with a baseball bat as he threatened to kill both women. While Curley was beating on his girlfriend, the other woman managed to escape and call police. When police arrived at the scene they found his girlfriend suffering from stab wounds, facial fractures and bruising from the brutal attack. The attack was witnessed by the girlfriend’s young children, according to reports. The indictments handed up Friday now move the case from Lynn District Court, where Curley has pleaded innocent, to Salem Superior Court, where he will be re-arraigned within a few weeks. In the meantime, Curley remains held at the Middleton Jail.Assistant District Attorney Kristin R. Buxton is assigned to prosecute the case.Indictments are not an indication of guilt, rather it is a legal process that allows a case to be transferred from District Court to Superior Court, allowing for a more severe punishment.
