MARBLEHEAD – Principal Mary Devlin has a plan in place for the Glover School?s 262 students when the Glover closes in July for the 18-month construction of a new $25.4 million school. The new building will be built on the Glover site to replace the current Glover and Eveleth schools and will affect the kindergarten-Grade 3 classes at both schools. It is scheduled to open in January 2014.Announced in this year?s Glover-Eveleth School Improvement Plan, the transition course of action was created over the past three years by the superintendent of schools, Marblehead Village School administrators, the special education department and Devlin.According to Devlin?s report to the School Committee Thursday, the plan doubles the current use of the Eveleth School, which is scheduled to close when the new school building opens. The Eveleth currently houses 85 kindergarten students in four classrooms. The building will open four more classrooms for next year?s 85 Grade 1 students, in addition to next year?s kindergarten students. The plan estimated the temporary enrollment at 170 but pointed out that, for the last three years, school officials have offered pre-kindergarten parents a chance to send their kindergartners to the Gerry or Bell schools instead of the Eveleth.Next year?s Grades 2 and 3, estimated at 174 students in eight classrooms, will be housed in a special second-floor area of the Marblehead Village School, which includes Grades 4, 5 and 6. The Glover students will have their own recess time and they will arrive at school and leave on a staggered schedule to minimize the effect on school traffic.
