It has become one of the most heated rivalries in the Northeastern Conference, and for good reason, because every time the Peabody and Danvers girls soccer teams get together, it’s usually a dramatic contest. On Monday, however, the Tanners weren’t in the mood for drama.Hayley Dowd had a goal and three assists and Maddie Doherty broke a 1-1 tie late in the first half as the Tanners rolled to a 4-1 win at Dr. Deering Stadium.”It’s really a great win for us,” Peabody coach Dennis Desroches said. “We look forward to playing these guys every time and we were fortunate to be able to finish our opportunities.”Peabody (4-0-2, 2-0-1 NEC North) grabbed an early 1-0 lead before the Falcons fought back to tie the game off a corner kick. Dowd then showed her passing skills, making a nifty feed to Doherty for the eventual game-winner.”Hayley has been such a great finisher but this year she’s had to change her role and get others involved and she did a great job of that (Monday),” Desroches said. Two more goals in the second half capped the Tanners’ brilliant effort. Victoria DiGiacomo also netted one of the goals.”It’s a great rivalry and competition with Danvers,” Desroches said. “To come out with a win is great. I’m proud of what the kids did (Monday).”English 1, Winthrop 1At Miller Field in Winthrop, this one was a heartbreaker for the 2-5-1 Bulldogs as Winthrop tied the game with 10 seconds left on a corner kick.”We played really, really well,” English coach Ed McNeil said. “This one really does feel like a loss with how it ended.”Briana Moreno gave English a 1-0 lead just 90 seconds into the contest, assisted by Abby Martocchio. Goalkeeper Karissa Burton made 12 saves.Saugus 1, Gloucester 0At Saugus, Paige Hibbard scored midway through the first half and keeper Melissa Toomey backed it up by stopping all five shots she saw as the Sachems (5-0-1) stayed unbeaten.”This definitely was one of our better games of the year. Gloucester is a very good team,” Saugus coach Chris Coviello said. The back line of Haley DeCristoforo, Gabby Cogliano, Ashley Firth and Stefani Terrazzano did a stellar job according to Coviello.Swampscott 2, Salem 0At Phillips Park in Swampscott, Emily Cerra and Kelly Birchmore scored in the first 10 minutes as the Big Blue (4-1-1) rode the fast start and a solid defensive effort to the win. Sam Rizzo made three saves in goal.Revere 4, Classical 1At Revere, the Patriots (1-6) finally got in the win column as Brittany Brown scored twice and Dana Brown and Jackie Noel also picked up goals.”It was nice to be able to play as a team and get a win,” Revere coach Natalie Lyons said.Classical (1-4-1) got its goal from Rebecca Potter.Chelsea 7, Tech 0At Manning Field, the Tigers (0-5) hung tough for the opening minutes but trailed 4-0 by the half and were never able to recover. Ofelia Alas played well in the net for Tech, who also got solid games from Ana Garcia and Dayry Arevalo.
