SALEM – Bail for a Lynn man who is facing a minimum mandatory eight-year prison term for allegedly peddling cocaine again remains at $15,000 following his arraignment Friday in Salem Superior Court.Bruce Maiben, 34, of 72 Mall St., #8, Lynn, pleaded innocent to trafficking over 14 grams of cocaine, possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, subsequent offense, and possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, subsequent offense, before Judge John T. Lu.As jointly recommended by the prosecutor and defense, the judge agreed to continue the same bail amount as previously set in Lynn District Court and continued the case to Nov. 2.In the meantime, Maiben remains held at the Middleton Jail in lieu of bail. The charges arise out of an incident on June 22 when police raided his Mall Street apartment armed with a search warrant and reportedly seized about 22 grams of cocaine as well as several twists of cocaine and marijuana.Because Maiben has prior narcotic convictions for drug distribution out of Boston Municipal Court in 2005, he faces a minimum mandatory punishment of five years in state prison for the subsequent offense charge and another three-year minimum mandatory prison term for trafficking over 14 grams of cocaine.Assistant District Attorney Michael Sheehan is prosecuting the case for the state.Public defender Mark Schmidt has been appointed to represent Maiben since he has been deemed indigent, meaning he has no money to hire his own counsel, and that the state will pay all costs, but he must pay $150 toward his legal representation.
