LYNN – Police on Monday arrested and charged a Lynn man with attempted murder in connection with a near-fatal stabbing that occurred on the street near the suspect’s Washington Street home early Sunday morning.Gabriel Cepeda, 28, of 187 Washington Street #16, was arrested and charged with assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, knife, and violating a city knife ordinance at 11:30 a.m. Monday, according to the police log.Cepeda was arrested without incident and will be arraigned in Lynn District Court on Tuesday, according to an email Monday evening from Lynn Police Lt. Dave Brown.At approximately 2:06 a.m. Sunday, police responded to the area of 192 Washington Street on a report of a stabbing, according to Lt. Brown. At the scene, a 30-year-old man was found apparently stabbed in the abdomen, and Brown wrote that the injuries were considered life threatening. The victim was transported to Mass. General Hospital.Brown said Monday that the victim – whose name was not released – was listed in stable condition and is expected to survive.Brown said on Sunday that the suspect and the victim were believed to have known each other and that the incident was not considered a random act of violence.
