Volleyball: English, Classical score impressive wins

The Classical volleyball team avenged an early-season loss to Saugus, defeating the Sachems, 3-0, at Classical Thursday.Classical took a tight first game (25-21) and from that point on cruised (25-6, 25-14).Leading the way for Classical was Cassie D’Agostino and Phaedra Mehu.Classical coach Frank Grealish was ecstatic with his team’s performance.”My girls played very well today.”This was really a nice bounce back game for my girls to defeat a team they lost to not to long ago,” Grealish said.Classical is now 3-5.English 3, Beverly 0At English, coach Laurie Wentzell was very impressed with her team’s performance.”My entire team played great today,” she said. “From the experienced players to our new comers, everyone played contributed in a positive way.”Leading the way for English were senior captains Melody Gasca and Analuz Adams. Gasca had a lot of digs and Adams played well at setter. English is now 1-7.Lynnfield 3, Ham.-Wen 0At Hamilton-Wenham, the Pioneers (14-0) won 25-12, 26-24, 25-20, with senior Liz Vo (10 kills, 2 blocks) and Kelsey LeBlanc (5 aces, 2 kills, 7 digs) leading the way.Lynnfield is coming off a 16-4 season that ended with a trip to the state semifinals.Masconomet 3, Peabody 0At Masco, the Tanners (7-5) lost 12-25, 22-25, 21-25, despite strong play from Carolyn Scacchi (11 kills), Mikayla Wallace (6 kills), Amanda Martin and Laura Pelletrino.Matignon 3, St. Mary’s 0At Tony Conigliaro Gym, the Spartans had good performances from Martina Pena, Taylor Faieta and Emily Morris.
