The Swampscott field hockey team shut down Saugus, 2-0, Tuesday at Swampscott and along the way qualified for the state tournament.Swampscott (8-3-2) went up 1-0 five minutes into the game on a goal by Cody Kline with an assist by Julianne Marquis. Danielle Mayblyum scored Swampscott’s final goal 12 minutes into the second half, assisted by Tori Thistle. Alexa Steriti had a strong game at center and midfield and Katie Samiljan picked up the shutout (7 saves).Danvers 6, Salem 0At Salem, the Falcons spread the wealth with five different players scoring a goal. Leading the way for Danvers was Rachael Trocchi (2 goals). The rest of the Danvers goal scorers were: Sarah Potter, Courtney Torchia, Katherine Leonard and Seth Kamens (all scored 1 goal each). Danvers is now 11-2-1.Marblehead 2, Gloucester 2At Gloucester, Eliza Fitzgerald scored both goals for the 7-3-3 Magicians, with assists from Mimi Goetz on the first and Ellie Russo on the second. Coach Linda Rice-Collins said that Sydney Anders played well defensively. Matt Boehner (35) had a strong performance for Lynnfield (7-8) as well.BOYS CROSS COUNTRYSt. Mary’s 26, Matignon 29At Matignon, the Spartans (1-7) recorded their first win this season. Leading the way for St. Mary’s over this 2.5-mile course was Mike Ksander (2nd overall, 15:54). St. Mary’s freshmen Alex Maghsoudi and Cullen Coyle finished third and fourth, respectively. This was their final meet.St. John’s 20, Catholic Memorial 41At Franklin Park, Catholic Memorial’s Dennis Muldoon won the race (17:11), but the Eagles (3-1) took the next five spots. Kelsey Flagg finished second (17:51); other standouts included Tim Contois (17:55); Tom O’Shea (17:56); Liam Dow (17:56) and Tim Loehner (17:58). The freshman team won its meet, 15-49, with Josh Raposa taking first (11:35).GIRLS CROSS COUNTRYSt. Mary’s 17, Matignon 46At Matignon, the Spartans took the top three spots over this 2.5-mile course. Sophomore Melissa LeFave finished first overall (17:10). St. Mary’s seventh grader Sarah Ryan finished second (17:16), and Alexandria Fisher finished third (17:23). St. Mary’s finished the year at 3-4.
