School: St. Mary’s golf squeaks past Lowell Catholic

The St. Mary’s golf team closed its regular season by eking out a 128-127 win over Lowell Catholic at Meadow Creek GC in Dracut on Thursday.”They have a good team over there and are really getting better,” Spartans coach Jay Fiste said.Chris Price led St. Mary’s with 27 points while Sean MacBurnie had 24 and Justin Lappin added 21 points. Cam O’Neill had 20 with Sean Maher and Ryan Madden having 18 points each.Price, O’Neill, Madden, Lappin and MacBurnie will be back at Meadow Creek this morning for the CCL Open. The Spartans will then head to Far Corner GC on Monday morning for the Division 3 North sectionals.Salem 42 1/2, Swampscott 29 1/2At Kernwood CC in Salem, the Witches (11-7) dominated, taking seven of the eight matches. Taking the wins were Tim Richmond with a 5-4 win at one; Cam Darmody, 6-3 at two; Kyle Gauthier, 6-3 at three; Matt Cocozella, 6 1/2-2 1/2 at four; Joey Malionek, 5-4 at five; Troy Gilbert, 5 1/2-3 1/2 at seven and Dan Gauthier, 6 1/2-2 1/2 at eight.St. John’s 233, Danvers 253At Ferncroft CC, the Eagles (13-2) had a solid all around team performance. Leading the way for St. John’s were Nick Pandelena and Brandon Bingel (both shot 37). Josh Wingardner had a solid performance (38). Matt Bullock chipped in as well (40).Trent King shot the low round for the Falcons (37). Teammate George Merry had a fine outing as well (38).Beverly 42 1/2, Peabody 29 1/2Peabody 47 1/2, Danvers 24 1/2At Beverly, Peabody’s Athan Goulos shone in both his matches. No. 1 Goulos won both his matches going away (9-0, 8-1). Matt Correale won one of his matchups in impressive fashion (8-1). Peabody ended the year at 4-7.FIELD HOCKEYDanvers 6, Peabody 0At Danvers, Sara Potter had two goals and an assist and Seth Kamens added a goal and two assists as the Falcons (12-2-1) cruised to the win. Nicole Pszenny, Rachel Trocchi and Julia Calcazeti also had goals.Peabody’s Tristina Buckley played well at forward. The Tanners are 7-4-3.Fenwick 1, Georgetown 1At Georgetown, Hannah Bethune scored at the 15 minute mark, assisted by Grace Celona, to give Fenwick the lead. The Royals, though, would tie the game at the half and neither team could strike in the final 40 minutes.The Crusaders are 6-8-2.Marblehead 1, Salem 0At Marblehead, the Magicians scored the game winning goal midway through the second half, when Tyler Phillips scored assisted by Casey Collins.The Magicians’ Ellie Russo and Brittany Keroack played well on the front line. Sidney Andrews led the way for the Magician defense.
