LYNN – Simply put, it was probably the most comprehensive game that the Lynn English football team has put together this season. And for the Bulldogs, it couldn’t have come at a more opportune time.In front of one of the largest crowds of the year at Manning Field, plus the cameras of FOX 25, the Bulldogs clinically dissected Revere as both Jermaine Kelly and P.J. Dorsey rushed for over 100 yards in a 38-13 win on senior night.Click here for a photo gallery.”That’s the best that we’ve played all year,” English coach Peter Holey said. “Our big players made plays, we didn’t turn the ball over and I’m happy for our seniors on senior night.”Revere (5-2, 1-1 NEC/CAL Tier 1) was very much in the ballgame until the final play of the first half, when the Bulldogs (5-2, 1-0) delivered a knockout.Sitting some 60 yards from the end zone with only three ticks remaining, English called for a throw back pass from Malcolm Brown Simpson to Kelly. But the play was well defended and the quarterback-turned-wide receiver had to improvise. And boy, did he do it well ? as Brown Simpson dashed out of trouble, got a crushing block from Dorsey at the Revere 30, and took it the distance for a 21-0 halftime lead.”We have to do a better job of tackling,” Revere coach Lou Cicatelli said. “We had guys in position to make the plays and we couldn’t do it.”The Bulldogs then paid off the huge momentum switch by taking the second half kick and turning the lights out on Revere’s chances. A 27-yard Kelly to Erik Holey pass did most of the damage on the 60-yard drive.Four plays later, Jevon Brown Simpson bulled in from the eight for a 28-0 lead with 7:56 left in the third.”One of the things we wanted to do was pick up the tempo on offense,” Holey said. “We cleaned up our packages and things ran more like they’re supposed to in a no-huddle offense.”Revere got that score back on the ensuing possession as Joe Ritchie hit Drew Gotham for a 36-yard touchdown that narrowed the lead to 28-7. But Dorsey answered with a five-yard run late in the third to extend the lead back to four scores.”At 14-0, we’re thinking we’re still in the game. And even at 21, we still thought we could come out, score and come back,” Cicatelli said. “But (English) came out and jammed it right down our throats to start the half.”
