Boys Soccer: Revere comes up big against Swampscott

In need of four points out of its final three contests, the Revere boys soccer team left Phillips Park in Swampscott with two of those much-needed points on Wednesday as Abel Alcantar’s goal with 8:00 left gave the Patriots a 2-1 win.”We didn’t want to have to win our last two games to make it,” Revere coach Nik Tower said. “It’s a big win for us. Swampscott had been hot.”Mohamed Kenawy gave Revere a 1-0 lead at the half before Erick Verdu tied the game for Swampscott (6-5-4) on a penalty kick.Marblehead 5, Beverly 2At Beverly, Cam Rogers and Connor Leahy had goals but the Panthers (2-11-3) came up short.Saugus 2, Winthrop 2At Miller Field in Winthrop, the Vikings had a 1-0 halftime lead but the Sachems (3-11-2) rallied thanks to second-half goals from Nick Lennan and Andre Ipojuca.Fenwick 2, Arl. Cath. 1At Donaldson Field in Peabody, Brian Blaisdell had a pair of second-half goals, including the game-winner midway through, as the Crusaders (9-6-2) got a much-needed win.Salem 1, Peabody 0At Bertram Field, Brion Likaj scored on a penalty kick midway through the second half to give the Witches (11-2-2) a win over the Tanners (9-5) in a hard-fought contest.Danvers 4, Gloucester 1At Gloucester, the Falcons clinched their third straight Northeastern Conference North title behind two goals and an assist from Jon Amico. Eric Martin and Kyle Gable also added goals, while Martin and Ethan Tye chipped in assists.”Our team is excited,” said Danvers coach Mike Chase. “It is one of the goals we set at the beginning of the year: get into the tournament, win the conference. Now we can get ready for the tourney.”St. John’s 0, Acton-Boxboro 0At Acton, the Eagles (11-2-3) had a 21-7 shots advantage but couldn’t find the back of the net. Prep goalie Ken Fryer posted his eighth shutout of the season.
