Girls Soccer: Big Blue, Magicians end up with tie

The Swampscott and Marblehead girls soccer teams finished in a 1-1 tie at Marblehead on Wednesday.The game was scoreless at intermission before Gabby Carrick scored top-shelf to give the Magicians a 1-0 lead at about the 30-minute mark. Yet Kelly Birchmore of Swampscott scored with about 15-20 minutes left in regulation to tie it for the Big Blue (9-6-3).Kathryn DiGiammarino also stood out on the pitch for Marblehead (5-7-4), which now needs to win its next two games (at Matignon on Saturday and against Winthrop at home on Wednesday) to earn a berth in the state tournament.Samantha Rizzo made 12 saves in net for Swampscott, which is off until the tournament.Fenwick 1, Arlington Catholic 1At Arlington, the Crusaders (9-2-6) could not make Annette Ruggiero’s second-half goal the winner, as the Cougars were able to tie the score with roughly 15 minutes remaining in the game.NS Tech 5, Tech 0At Manning Field, Tech finished its season with a solid performance. Ofelia Alas played well in midfield as Roxanna Diaz and Anna Garcia submitted strong games.Saugus 4, Revere 0At Revere, Mikayla Perella; Briana Evans; Paige Hibbard and Jackie Russo all had goals while Melissa Toomey turned in the shutout as the Sachems moved to 10-3-3.
