SALEM – Bail for a Lynn man charged with stealing money from two downtown Peabody businesses during a three-day crime spree in September was set at $10,000 cash following his arraignment Friday in Salem Superior Court.Anthony J. Kennedy, 20, of 94 Western Ave., #2R, Lynn, pleaded innocent to two counts of unarmed robbery as well as assault and battery before Judge Timothy Q. Feeley, who agreed to set the $10,000 bail at the joint request of the prosecutor and defense and continued the case to Nov. 30.The defense may seek a bail review hearing at any scheduled court date.In the meantime, Kennedy remains held in lieu of bail at the Middleton Jail.On the early morning of Sept. 13, a man walked into the Tedeschi Food Shop, located at 115 Main St., wearing a white T-shirt and shorts, walked up to the counter, assaulted the store clerk as he grabbed the contents in the cash register and fled on foot toward Washington Street.Three night later on Sept. 16, at about 9 p.m., a man wearing a black Nike pants and a black Patriot?s championship sweatshirt walked into the CVS located at 174 Main St., and grabbed a handful of cash from an open cash register and fled in the direction of Howley Street. After police reviewed the surveillance footage from both robberies a warrant was issued for Kennedy?s arrest.About a week later, Peabody Detective Joseph Gilroy received information on Kennedy?s whereabouts and spotted him traveling into Lynn and he was apprehended with the help of Lynn officers after a brief foot chase.A conviction on each of the unarmed robbery charges carries a potential life sentence in state prison.
