DANVERS – No, Quigley and Maag are not the headlining duo for a new police medical dramedy on TBS. They are however, the offensive leaders of a Marblehead football team that defeated Danvers, 48-6.Behind the tough running of Will Quigley, and the combination of running and passing by Ian Maag, the Magicians (6-2, 3-0) were able to soundly defeat their hosts.Quigley finished with 86 yards rushing and two touchdowns as Maag threw touchdown passes to Philip Coughlin and Brian Daly. Maag completed six-of-eight passes for 75 yards and also added another 78 on the ground. In the first half, the Marblehead offense moved methodically down the field. Quigley followed great blocking by the Magician offensive line, particularly to the edges to grab yardage in chunks. The first two scoring drives featured Maag using good protection to find Dana for 12 yards and then Coughlin on 4th-and-six.Dana’s second touchdown of the game came just before halftime. On a post pattern to the sidelines, Gus Percy connected with Dana. Dana managed to dodge two Danvers defenders and then streak down the hash marks for a 70-yard touchdown. While Dana might have had the longest play of the game, the best catch of the evening belonged to Jake Cawlina of Danvers (3-6). With time winding down in the first half, and the Falcons already facing a 21-0 hole, good running on the outside by Nick Valles positioned the offense on the Marblehead 16. Danvers quarterback Ryan Chasse rolled to his right and threw a fade to the back corner of the endzone where a backwards leaping and fully extended Cawlina hauled down the pass for the score.”(Danvers) was doing some things in the first half that made me nervous,” said Marblehead coach James Rudloff. “Their defense took away some of our game plan and their offense moved the ball. It was the most uncomfortable I had been all year during halftime. I started to worry if this was going to be a trap game for us.”In the second half, Marblehead’s defense put an end to any of Danvers’ thoughts of offense. Led by Tyler Bates and Joel Katz, the Magicians forced the Falcons into four three-and-outs in the second half. Danvers’ only other two possessions of the half ended in a Katz interception and the time winding down on the end of the game.”In the second half we were able to make some adjustments to what they were doing on offense,” said James Rudloff. “We have a physical and intelligent team that responds well to reinforcement of what they are doing well.”Meanwhile, the Marblehead offense continued to roll. Substitute quarterback Matt Millett rushed for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to round out the scoring.
