HomeGoods has smooth opening in Swampscott

November 8, 2011 by Sarah Mupo

SWAMPSCOTT – While the newly opened Swampscott HomeGoods may not have a radically different layout than the other 21 stores in the Boston market, company spokesperson Phil Tracey said the store?s customers are unique in their retail habits.?The reason I love the Swampscott store is there are so many home enthusiasts in there,” he said.Recalling his visit on the day after the Oct. 23 opening, Tracey said that he saw one woman who was particularly taken with the store?s merchandise.?One woman pushed her cart around the store and when I was leaving she was making another round with a full cart,” he said. The 25,000 square-foot store, with an average of 40,000 pieces of merchandise, did not have any special promotions upon opening because of its consistent low prices. HomeGoods is not a discount store, Tracey said, but rather “off-price.”?The great thing about off-price and HomeGoods is you don?t have to wait for a sale, you don?t have to wait for coupons,” he said. “Our prices are 20 to 60 percent less than department and specialty store prices every day.”Tracey attributed the store?s in-season and ever-changing merchandise to the HomeGoods buyers who work with vendors all over the world 365 days a year to bring a steady stream of new merchandise into stores.?You can come into our store on Monday and you can come into the store on Thursday and it looks like a new store,” he said. With the holidays on the horizon, Tracey said that this year HomeGoods is the “the official gift-giving store,” because shoppers can find gifts for everyone, from their parents to their pets.HomeGoods, which has more than 370 stores across the country, is owned by Framingham-based TJX Companies, Inc., which also owns T.J. Maxx and Marshalls. The Swampscott HomeGoods, 450 Paradise Road, is open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays. There are nearby locations in Saugus and Chelsea.
