SALEM – A Lynn man accused of beating and stabbing his 70-year-old friend as he tried to rob him at a Willow Street apartment this summer remains held at the Middleton Jail pending a dangerousness hearing.Pablo Martinez, 45, of 22 Rockmere Gardens, Lynn, appeared Monday for his arraignment in Salem Superior Court and pleaded innocent to armed assault with intent to murder a victim over the age of 60, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over the age of 60, armed assault with intent to rob and assault and battery causing serious bodily injury.Assistant District Attorney Kristen R. Buxton filed a petition for a dangerousness hearing citing that Martinez is a danger to the community and victim and must be held without bail until his trial.Buxton turned over information regarding the Lynn District Court hearing to Judge Timothy Q. Feeley to read before the dangerous hearing.Defense lawyer Alice Jayne is expected to argue at the hearing that there are conditions of release to ensure the safety of the public and the victim.Feeley agreed to set down the hearing date for Monday, Nov. 14.In the meantime, Martinez remains held without bail.The charges arise out of an incident on Aug. 24 when Martinez is allegedly to have stabbed and beat his 70-year-old friend as he tried to rob him in a downtown apartment at 19 Willow St., #301.The victim, Felix Martinez, no relation to Pablo, was found by police in a pool of blood with a bloody knife at his side inside his own apartment after Pablo had led police to the scene that early morning.Felix Martinez had several stab wounds to his face and body. He was taken to Salem Hospital for treatment. The injuries reportedly were non life-threatening.Authorities learned through their investigation that the two men had been drinking for about two hours before the incident occurred, according to reports.
