LYNN – As a Los Angeles sheriff for two decades, Jesse Romero saw a thing or two that prompted him to question his faith in humanity. But the Catholic Evangelist said it was his faith in a higher power that kept him alive. On Friday night, Romero will share his stories of living life and fighting crime as a devout Catholic at the Holy Family Parish on Lynn.Romero, also a two-time USA kickboxing champion and three-time World Police kickboxing champion, believes a return to Judeo-Christian values is the best crime fighter that exists.”I came to realize that for 20 years, of the people I’d take to jail, 99.9 percent of them were people that were faithless, people that didn’t have a prayer life,” he said.Calling knowledge of the Catholic faith “the best-kept secret in America,” Romero said he evangelizes not only to fight crime, but to eliminate abortion, (“the killing of innocent babies,” he said) and eradicate pornography.Deacon John Bresnahan of Holy Family Parish said he invited Romero to speak because his bilingual background helps him connect to some parishioners.”He comes across and someone who is deeply in faith, and he has also seen real life in the streets of LA,” Bresnahan said.Romero will take the stage 7 p.m. Friday at Holy Family Parish, 28 Bessom St. The event is open to all?refreshments will be provided and a free will offering taken up.Amber Parcher can be reached at [email protected].
