LYNN – A 24-year-old man was stabbed in the chest shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday at the corner of Union and Chestnut streets.Although little information was immediately known about the stabbing, the victim’s mother, Ann Tondreau, said she received a frantic call from her son, David Desfosses, saying he had been stabbed.Tondreau, in tears, stood in the rain speaking to police as her son was loaded into an ambulance behind her. She said they were treating him at NSMC Union Hospital in Lynn.”You can’t even walk down your own streets anymore,” she said, sniffling and smoking a cigarette.Police combed the immediate area, knocking on apartment doors and speaking to witnesses. One policeman remarked that Desfosses himself didn’t know why he had been stabbed. Police wouldn’t officially comment on the case.A witness, who only gave her name as Rosa, said she was standing on the other side of Union Street when she and her friends heard a scream.”All of a sudden we heard a scream, like a girl screaming, and we saw someone drop,” she said. The surrounding neighborhood seemed abuzz, its safety on the mind of witnesses and passersby. One young boy who declined to give his name asked Tondreau what all the commotion was about.”My son was stabbed,” she said.”Oh, I’m so sorry,” he replied, pointing to the apartment building across the street on Chestnut. “I live right there, this is crazy.”Amber Parcher can be reached at [email protected].
