New barbershop dream come true for Lynner

Sara Brown

November 28, 2011 by Sara Brown

LYNN – When Cory Kennison was laid off from his job in the Boston Public School system he decided he would go to barbering school. Years later, that passion promoted him to recently open his own barbershop in his native Lynn.?It was just something that interested me,” Kenninson said. “I always liked getting my haircut.”Kenninson Barber Shop opened Oct. 15 on Western Avenue. The experience has been a rewarding one thus far for the lifelong Lynn resident. “It has been going well. We get busier every day,” Kenninson said. “Everyone keeps telling their friends about us.”After working years in barber shops, Kenninson decided he wanted to strike out on his own. “I have been working at barber shops for awhile now and thought I shot just take a shot at it,” he said.Kenninson, a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, said when he decided to open his own shop it had to be in his hometown. “I knew I wanted it in Lynn. Of course I looked at other towns to see the different prices, but I really wanted it in Lynn.”He added, “I really love it here. No matter where I moved, I always came back here.”He also said he enjoys the atmosphere in his barbershop.?It is a really friendly atmosphere. You get to see everyone you know,” Kenninson said. “You talk about everything there with your friends. Life stuff.”The current economy woes did weigh heavily on his mind when he was opening the store.?You have to think about it. Of course it goes through your mind,” he said. “You just have to think positive and work as hard as you can.”Kenninson said his recipe for success is, “I treat every haircut like it is my own. I do this best job I can do in every possible way.”Kenninson said he?s happy to have found his life?s vocation.?I really do enjoy my job,” Kenninson said. “It doesn?t feel like work to me.”The shop is located at 382 Western Ave. The shop?s hours of operation are Monday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday, 7a.m. to 7p.m. and Saturday 8a.m. to 4p.m. Contact the shop at (781) 595-2887.
