LYNNFIELD – An 18-year-old Billerica man was killed and a 17-year-old Billerica female was seriously injured this weekend when a car traveling southbound on Route 128 in Lynnfield struck them, according to State Police in Danvers.State Police said the two were standing in the travel lane of Route 128 just before midnight Friday when a car struck them near the intersection of Route 1.Connor J. Toscano, 18, was pronounced dead on the scene shortly after midnight Saturday. The 17-year-old female, whose name police are not releasing, is seriously injured. She is being treated at Massachusetts General Hospital. While police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, State Police said they believe the pair were two of four occupants in a 2000 Saturn Sl2 sedan that stopped in the median of Route 128. Police believe the Billerica man and teen got out of the car and were standing in the travel lane when a second vehicle struck them. When reached by phone Saturday morning, Lynnfield Fire Chief Tom Bogart said he couldn’t comment on the incident and referred to the Lynnfield Police. Lynnfield Police said they assisted in blocking off exit ramps to aid the investigation, but referred all comments to the State Police. The southbound side of the highway was briefly closed while police investigated. State Police said the driver of the second car and witnesses are cooperating with the investigation, which is being handled through the Essex District Attorney’s office.Amber Parcher can be reached at [email protected].
