Judge continues case against New Hampshire man charged with assaulting Lynn ex-girlfriend

SALEM – Ronald Fronduto Jr., the New Hampshire man accused of strangling, kicking and throwing his former girlfriend onto the floor in her Lynn apartment in May, is looking to have the case lobbied with a Superior Court judge.Fronduto’s attorney, Thomas J. Torrisi, appeared in Salem Superior Court on Thursday asking Judge Timothy Q. Feeley to continue the case until Jan. 31 at which time he is looking to lobby the case and hopefully come to a resolution. When a case is lobbied, it is usually at side-bar, out of the public ear, in which the prosecutor and defense make their pitch about their position on the case with a recommendation for a sentence imposition. The judge listens and makes his own recommendation of what he believes the imposition should be. Then the defense discusses it with his client and makes a decision if he wants to plead guilty to the facts or go to trial. The judge agreed to continue the case, but questioned Torrisi concerning a dangerousness hearing that still has not been addressed.Torrisi said he is taking no action on that issue at this time so in the meantime, Fronduto, 38, formerly of 64 Kelly Road, Salem, N.H., still remains held without bail at the Middleton Jail.Fronduto is charged with 17 indictments that include attempted murder, kidnapping, three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon as well as assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery in violation of a court order, four counts of intimidation of a witness, five counts of violation of a 209-A court order and stalking in violation of a restraining order, allegations he has denied. He is accused of entering his 37-year-old former girlfriend’s home at 10 Nahant St. in Lynn on May 6 where he allegedly choked her and threw items at her as he tossed her to the floor and kicked her during the attack. At some point the victim was able to flee from her home and seek help.Fronduto apparently was trying to convince his former girlfriend to drop assault charges against him in New Hampshire when he went to her house. At that time when he was at her home he was in violation of a 209-A court order.Police say he also contacted her days afterwards, on May 7 through May 11, in violation of the restraining orders she had taken out against him.Assistant District Attorney Kim M. Faitella is prosecuting the case.
