NAHANT – Federal Marshals and local officers raided a local home early Wednesday morning and arrested a man who was allegedly involved in trading guns for drugs, Nahant Police said.”The original charges stemmed from some activity in Vermont,” Nahant Police Sgt. Stephen Shultz said Friday. “The warrant just stated weapons charges. Information provided between agents and I indicated trading weapons – firearms – for drugs.”Edward Chretien, 26, address listed as 5 Prospect St., was arrested at that address on federal warrants at approximately 7:38 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to the police log. He was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals, the log notes.Shultz said the arrest occurred after U.S. marshals arrived with a warrant for Chretien’s arrest issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The marshals had tried to locate Chretien in Vermont but received word he was staying at a home his parents rented in Nahant, Shultz said. Officers and marshals found Chretien’s car at the address and made the arrest without incident, Shultz said. He reported that no weapons or drugs were found when they made the arrest.Shultz said that marshals indicated they would try to extradite Chretien back to Vermont. Brandy Donini of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Massachusetts said that Chretien had been indicted in Vermont and referred further questions to that office, which could not be reached by deadline. A press representative from the ATF could not be reached for comment. A number published for the address was not in service and nobody answered a knock on the home’s door.”It’s not an everyday occurrence here in Nahant,” Shultz said. “But we still deal with it.”Cyrus Moulton can be reached at [email protected].
