Girls Hoop: Tech falls just short against Minuteman

The Tech girls basketball team fell just short against Minuteman, 48-47, at Minuteman Tuesday night.Tech coach Kevin McDormand was very happy with his team’s performance.”This was a really well-played game by both sides. It was very competitive from start to finish. I am very optimistic about my team’s future,” McDormand said.Tech was down two with 12 seconds left in the game and missed a two-point field goal at the buzzer that would have sent the game into overtime.Leading the way for Tech was junior Hattie Watkins, who was two blocks away from a triple-double (24 points, 10 rebounds, 8 blocks). Senior Claribelle Ramirez had another strong game on defense and also chipped in with eight points. Tech is 1-3.English 72, Beverly 34At Beverly, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 24-point halftime lead. Leading the way for English was Catherine Stinson (23 points, 6 assists, 5 steals). Tyesha Lewis also helped out (18 points, 7 steals). This dynamic duo combined to score 41 of the 72 English points. English is 3-0.Williams 69, Fenwick 39At Fenwick, Fenwick coach Adam DeBaggis was satisfied with his team’s performance despite the result.”My team played a very aggressive style throughout the whole game. My team was in for the first half but just didn’t make enough plays in the second half,” DeBaggis said.Leading the way for Fenwick was Kate Lipka (6 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals). Lauren Moulton had a nice game for Fenwick as well (5 points, 8 rebounds). Fenwick is 3-1.Swampscott 35, Gloucester 22At Swampscott, the Big Blue outscored Gloucester 23-11 in the second half. Leading the way for Swampscott was Caroline Murphy. Murphy recorded a double-double (10 points, 19 rebounds). Marina Padovani was one point and one rebound away from a double-double (9 points, 9 rebounds). Swampscott (2-0) plays Saugus Thursday.Winthrop 42, Marblehead 39At Winthrop, it was a very highly contested game that came down to the last play. The Vikings outscored the Magicians 18-16 in the fourth quarter, which was just enough to hold off Marblehead. Leading the way for the Vikings (2-1) was Temison Meggison (12 points, 12 rebounds). Marblehead received strong performances from Katherine Digiammarino (15 points) and Emily Freedland (13).Lynnfield 44, Amesbury 36At Amesbury, the game was tied at the half, 20-20. The Pioneers outscored Amesbury 24-16 in the second half. Leading the way for Lynnfield was Kelsey LeBlanc, who recorded a double-double (13 points, 19 rebounds).Danvers 37, Saugus 25At Endicott, Danvers led 18-17 at the half. Danvers outscored Saugus 19-8 in the second half. Leading the way for Danvers was Kasey Sherry (20 points).”Sherry has been in a little funk coming into this one so it was good to see her get out of it,” according to Danvers coach Patrick Veilleux.Danvers is now 1-2.Revere 51, Salem 24At Revere, the Patriots were led by Tiffany Harris (6 points, 11 rebounds). Revere (2-1) will play Beverly Friday.
