REVERE – The man accused of stabbing someone outside a Revere home early Monday morning told police he was attacked first and denied any wrongdoing, according to police reports obtained from Chelsea District Court, but he has been arrested for similar crimes in Lynn before.Swampscott Police arrested Jamaal Andrade, 28, of 184 Burrill St. #2 Monday on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace, and then turned him over to Revere Police for his role in a stabbing there.Andrade was arraigned Monday and held on $5,000 bail for charges of armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after he allegedly stabbed John MacDonald of Winthrop during an altercation outside a Revere home. But his lawyer said he was acting in self-defense.?He got beat up pretty badly when he was assaulted by a group of guys and even the police report notes that. And when I was speaking to him it?s relatively noticeable,” Attorney Paul Anthony said of his client. “He maintains that he got beat up and he told the officers that his car got demolished,” Anthony said.According to a report from Revere Officer Leo MacAskill, Andrade told him when he first rolled his window down to talk to the party guests, someone punched him in the face and called him a racial slur.MacAskill?s report said Revere Police responded to the home at 65 Alden Ave. three times between midnight and 2 a.m. Monday, first for a neighbor complaining of a disturbance, a second time for a possible fight outside the house and finally for a possible assault, which turned out to be the alleged stabbing.Tiffany Coolong, who identified herself as Andrade?s ex-girlfriend and the mother of their 2-month-old child, said Andrade showed up at the party and a fight ensued that resulted in MacDonald being stabbed. The report said MacDonald told police in an interview at East Boston Health Clinic that Andrade had been “toying with him” with his car by pulling forward and reversing to mimic hitting the car MacDonald had been sitting in. MacDonald said he got out and told Andrade to stop, at which time Andrade pulled forward, which forced him to “jump on the hood to avoid being hit,” and he smashed the windshield in the process.Angry over his broken windshield, MacDonald said Andrade then got out and began chasing him around the car, which ended with MacDonald being stabbed in the back.In a conflicting report, Andrade told police MacDonald jumped on the hood of his car and broke the windshield intentionally, and also denied stabbing him. He said he only came to Revere to drop off diapers and baby wipes for his infant child, and that he didn?t mean harm when he tapped the car MacDonald was sitting in with his vehicle.?(Andrade) recognized them and was kinda just joking and playing around and (MacDonald) got upset with him, jumped on the hood and kicked the windshield,” Anthony said.MacAskill?s police report also said Andrade was high on heroin when Revere Police picked him up from Swampscott, and he looked like he?d been in a fight.According to Daily Item archives, Andrade was arrested in Lynn on Nov. 9, 2009 and charged with a slew of crimes, including domestic assault and battery and assault with a dangerous weapon, after he chased a woman down Herschel Street with a knife, demanding money for drugs.Swampscott Police also arrested Andrade Monday on a Dorchester warrant from Oct. 31 for an April drug possession offense and a Lawrence warrant from Oct. 28 for speeding, driving with a suspended license and failure to pay the ensuing fines. He has a probable cause hearing for the assault and intent to murder charges Jan. 18, and Anthony said he hoped his client?s charges would be reduced.Taylor Provost can be reached at [email protected].
