MARBLEHEAD – The local musician whose van was struck by a drunk driver on the Lynnway in October died Tuesday at Massachusetts General Hospital, a spokesman for the hospital said.Neil Buckley, 58, of 44 High St. in Marblehead, was seriously injured on Oct. 15 when a 2008 Acura sedan broadsided his 2001 Chevrolet van as he was backing out onto the Lynnway following a gig. Reports said the collision caused his van to burst into flames and ejected him from the vehicle. He had been in the hospital since that night.Buckley was a well-known local musician and member of the band Soul Machine. Soon after the crash, friends and fellow musicians held a fund-raising event in Gloucester to help pay his medical bills.The driver, 21-year-old Daniel E. Murillo-Robles of East Boston was also seriously injured in the crash and is facing criminal drunk driving charges. A State Police press release issued in the week after the accident said Murillo-Robles had been at a party in Everett earlier in the night and was taking three juvenile passengers to the beach when the wreck occurred.It is unclear whether Murillo-Robles will be charged further in the wake of Buckley?s death.?No further charges have been filed at this time,” Essex District Attorney?s Press Secretary Steve O?Connell said Thursday. “And the accident reconstruction and investigation are ongoing.”Taylor Provost can be reached at [email protected].
