He was one of the main cogs in St. John’s Prep’s state title team a year ago and on Friday in Everett, Steve Haladyna joined rarified air.The slashing guard/forward led all scorers with 27 points as he eclipsed the 1,000 point mark for his career in the Eagles 66-53 comeback win over the Crimson Tide.”With the type of teams and league we play in and against, it’s a great accomplishment,” Prep coach Sean Connolly said.As it turned out, the Eagles (3-0) needed Haladyna to be at his best as they trailed 29-23 after a listless first half. But a 20-2 run in the third was a part of a 25 point quarter that turned the deficit into a 20 point Prep lead.”We didn’t come out with a lot of energy or toughness,” Connolly said. “We came out in the thrd with a little more intensity and forced some turnovers.”Owen Marchetti had 14 points for the Eagles and Mike Carbone finished with 11.Lynn English 65 Peabody 42At English, Alex Brown’s 14-point, 18-rebound performance paced the Bulldogs (3-1) to a victory over the Tanners. George Merry had 14 points in the loss.Beverly 61, Revere 45At Beverly, Zach Zigelbaum had 16 points and 11 rebounds as the Panthers (3-1) avoided a letdown following Tuesday’s win over English. Tyler Suggs added 13 and Chris Keaton chipped in with 11.Hamilton/Wenham 53 Lynnfield 45At South Hamilton, Stephen Tam scored 17 points for the host Generals to offset Pat Kearney’s 18.
