Lynn teen indicted for child rape

SALEM – A Lynn man who allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl inside a Timson Street apartment this past summer has been indicted by an Essex County grand jury.David Echeverria, 17, of 65 Elm St., #1, Lynn, is charged with rape of a child, a crime that carries a potential life sentence in state prison.The crime arises out of an incident on Aug. 11, when the accused allegedly brought the 12-year-old girl to his home, then at 100 Timson St., and raped her.The victim was taken to the hospital following the incident.The pair had known each other and became befriended on Facebook, according to reports.Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Kirshenbaum is assigned to prosecute the case.An indictment is not an indication of guilt, rather it is a legal process that allows a case to be transferred from District Court to Superior Court, allowing for a more severe punishment.
