Girls Hoop: Tech’s late charge falls short against Greater Lowell

The Tech girls basketball team put on a late charge against Greater Lowell, but Greater Lowell hung on with a 52-46 victory at Tech Tuesday night.Tech coach Kevin McDormand is very optimistic from his team’s performance.”My team once again played very hard today and just fell short. I am glad to see my team have fight and good things will happen for this team soon,” McDormand said.Tech found itself down 24-19 at the half. Greater Lowell outscored Tech by nine in the third quarter, and opened up a 14-point lead. Tech made a strong run in the final quarter, where it cut the deficit to three late in the fourth. Tech could not overcome Lowell’s clutch shot-making at the end of the game.Leading the way for Tech was Lhyeshia Robinson, who scored a career-high 20 points. Claribelle Ramirez (6 pts, 13 rebounds) and Hattie Watkins (8 pts, 13 rebounds) both had strong performances for Tech (1-7). Tech will play Chelsea on Friday.Revere 48, Peabody 34At Peabody, Patriots coach Katelyn Leonard was very happy with her team’s performance.”My team had a phenomenal day on the defensive side of the ball. Peabody is a good team and my team really played well against them from the beginning to the end,” Leonard said.Leading the way for Revere (4-1) was Gena Restiano (19 pts). Caitlyn Caramello had a strong all-around game (5 pts, 10 rebounds, 4 assists). Michaela Maguire had a strong game on the defensive side. Peabody (3-3) will try to bounce back against Winthrop Friday.Medford 49, Fenwick 42At Fenwick, Fenwick was always playing from behind and could never get over the hump with a lead. Leading the way for Fenwick was Maura Doyle (16 pts, 4 assists). Kate Lipka also helped out (11 pts, 6 rebounds). Fenwick is now 4-2.Gloucester 58, Danvers 24At Gloucester, Gloucester coach Lori Sanborn was more then satisfied with her team’s performance.”My team played very well today especially on the defensive end. It’s good to see all my team’s hard work really pay off when it matters the most,” Sanborn said.Leading the way for the Fishermen (4-3) was Heather Cain (21 pts). Senior co-captain Audrey Knowlton had a strong performance (13 pts). Sophia Black chipped in as well (8 pts). For Danvers, sophomore forwards Allie Walsh (4 pts, 6 rebounds) and Ashley Arnoldy (6 pts, 5 rebounds) had strong performances for the Falcons. Danvers (2-4) will play English Friday.
