January 5, 2012 by Taylor Provost

LYNN – Lynn Police are looking for a man who robbed a Sovereign Bank branch in Lynn in broad daylight Wednesday while armed with a gun.Lt. Christopher Kelly with Lynn Police said the bank, located at 414 Broadway, “was robbed at gunpoint by a white male, thin-build, 5?10?? tall, late 30s to early 40s, wearing a Red Sox cap,” at about 2 p.m. No one was injured.Charles Labate, who was the bank?s only customer at the time of the robbery, said he saw a white male walk up to a teller but didn?t give the man a second glance because he gave no indication he was robbing the bank and he did not see a weapon.?It was quiet and then (the teller) just started panicking,” Labate said.Customers who tried to go in the bank following the robbery found it locked, and a sign on the front door read “Closed due to an emergency” and directed customers to a different Sovereign Bank branch downtown.A spokeswoman from the bank said it would re-open with normal hours today, but declined to comment about the robbery or the amount of money that may have been taken.Taylor Provost can be reached at [email protected].
