Roundup: Tech swimming falls short to Blue Hills

The Tech swimming team fell just short against Blue Hills, 93-92, at Tech Wednesday night.Tech coach Brad Tilley was satisfied with his team’s performance.”My team swam very well today as a whole. My team will get Blue Hills one more time, so hopefully we will be on the right end the next time around,” Tilley said.Leading the way for Tech were Andrew Guy and Victor Vazquez, who were both double winners. Guy took the 200 free (2:12.56) and 500 free (6:31.25). Vazquez took the 50 free (26.03) and 100 free (1:01.21). Mike Zlatin took the 100 breaststroke (1:25.62), which was his personal best time by eight seconds. Tech is now 2-3.Cardinal Spellman 88, St. Mary’s 80At Massasoit Community College, the Spartans (0-3) dropped a close meet to the host Cardinals. St. Mary’s got wins from Eddie Traniello in the 50m freestyle (25.44) and Tom Kraemer in the 100m breaststroke (1:26.72). The Spartans also got relay team wins in both the 200m and 400m freestyle.BOYS BASKETBALLLynnfield 66, Triton 53At Byfield, Lynnfield was ahead 34-30 at the half. The Pioneer duo of Steve Carangelo and Pat Kearney was the difference for Lynnfield. Carangelo and Kearney combined to score 34 points (17 each). Lynnfield is now 5-4.GIRLS BASKETBALLLynnfield 50, Triton 28At Triton, Lynnfield was down 7-5 after the first quarter. The Pioneers dominated from that point on, and outscored Triton 45-21 for the rest of the game. Leading the way for Lynnfield was Kelsey LeBlanc (10 pts, 15 rebounds). Shannon Lamusta had a strong game as well (12 pts). Lynnfield is now 4-6.Winthrop 51, Malden 17At Winthrop, the Vikings were up 20-14 at the half. The Vikings defense dominated the second half, and held Malden to only three points in the second half. Leading the way for Winthrop was freshman Kristen Siscamanis (11 pts). Senior Taylor Duplin also helped out (11 pts). Winthrop is now 5-6.BOYS TRACKGreater Lawrence 50, Tech 17At Tech, Tech had a strong team effort despite the result. Mike Lora was the lone winner for Tech. Lora took the shot put (34-6). Hugo Daldris finished second in the 300. Moises Maia finished second in the 1,000. Tech is now 1-2.Marblehead 58, Danvers 28At Marblehead, the Magicians (4-1) had 12 runners post personal bests in a victory over the visiting Falcons. Nolan Raimo had a double victory in the high jump (six feet), and the high hurdles (7.8). Marblehead also got wins from Josh Belosz (300m, 39.2), Koby Michaels (600m, 1:32.8), Nate Fowler (1,000m, 2:44), and James Wigglesworth (2 mile, 10:24).GIRLS TRACKMarblehead 55, Danvers 31At Marblehead, the Magicians had seven different winners on the day. Winners for Marblehead were: Olivia Vener, hurdles; Lily Cummings and Kelly Roland, high jump; Cailin Daley, 300 meters, Maura Tubridy, 600; Paige Ferrucci, 1,000 and Madeline Piela, mile.WRESTLINGLynnfield 39, Malden 6At Lynnfield, the Pioneers had seven winners. Winners for Lynnfield were: Eric Kerr (106); Matt Foss (113); Tyler Shaffer (126); Alex Pascucci (132); Travis Caulfield (138); John Elliot (152) and Chris Conner (195). Lynnfield is 12-2.St. John’s 58, Xaverian 6At Xaverian, St. John’s had 11 winners: Louis Bornstein (106); Rich Glazier (113); D.J. Lemieux (120); Jared Costa (126); Micah Anderle (132); James Smith (138); Joelle Aviles (145); Peter Locke (160); David Koo (170); Ian Butterbrodt (182) and James Ingemi (195). St. John’s is 24-1.
