January 17, 2012 by Matt Tempesta

LYNN – A Monday morning car accident sent four people – including an infant – to the hospital after the car they were riding in struck a parked car and flipped over in Lynn, according to police. The accident occurred at around 11 a.m. on the corner of Essex and Jackson streets, according to District Fire Chief Jack Barry, who said there were no serious injuries and the four were taken to Salem Hospital as a precaution.Barry said the gray Honda Civic was heading east on Essex Street when it struck a red GMC Sierra that was parked on the side of the road and flipped over.?They were traveling toward Swampscott, struck this vehicle here, pushed it up about 10 feet and rolled over,” said Barry. “They?re going to take them all for evaluation to Salem Hospital.”Broken glass and debris, including wrapping paper and a stuffed animal, could be seen scattered across the street Monday morning as police closed off the street and onlookers gathered around the wrecked car to snap photos.John Akeley heard the crash while at work painting the Welch Florist building and rushed over to help.?I seen them out there and they were all crying and screaming about the baby,” said Akeley. “I ended up reaching over and unstrapping him and pulling him out. He was all strapped up and everything.”Akeley said another passenger was stuck in between the seats in the back of the car and he helped pull her out too.?She kept on complaining about her leg so I ended up pulling her out and sat her down,” said Akeley. “The other girl just jumped out.”Lynn Police had no further information about the condition of the four people involved Monday.Matt Tempesta can be reached at [email protected].
