January 18, 2012 by Taylor Provost

LYNN – The Lynn Police Traffic Commission established several “No Parking” areas and a few new One Way zones throughout the city during their meeting at police headquarters Tuesday night.Led by Police Chief Kevin Coppinger, the commission approved proposals to establish resident parking on both sides of Grover Street and a stop sign on Allen Avenue where it intersects Beede Avenue. They also extended the “No Parking” zone on Commercial Street from Alley Street to Bennett Street on the even side and created a “No Parking” zone on Sanderson Avenue in front of the tennis courts during daylight hours on Monday, Thursday and Friday. In addition, the commission discussed establishing a stop sign on Batchelder Court at the intersection of Cottage Court, as well as creating a one-way zone marked with a Do Not Enter sign on Clarendon Avenue toward Glenwood Street in order to smooth traffic during pick-up and drop-off times at Hood Elementary.?That matches the standard set for all the schools, so it?s consistent now,” Coppinger said. The group also discussed establishing 30-minute parking in front of Almonte Tax Services at 125 Commercial St. at the owner?s request and establishing 15-minute parking on the Broad Street side of Market Street, as well as a loading zone. All of these items will be advertised for the next meeting, secretary Mary Wright said. The committee also took off the table a proposal by Ward 3 Councilor Darren Cyr for a one-way zone on Pacific Street, and one on Lummins Court on the Meadow Court side, and Wright said both items will also be advertised for the next meeting. No one attended the public hearing.Taylor Provost can be reached at [email protected].
