If Derrick DeLuties ever actually got a chance to sit down, he’d probably have one of the best seats in the house for Sunday’s Patriots-Ravens AFC Championship game at Gillette Stadium.DeLuties, who grew up in Lynn and now lives in Lynnfield, has been a videographer for the Patriots for the past 15 years. When fans see themselves on the Jumbotron at the game or when those of us resigned to watching the game from the comfort of our couch see the coin flip at midfield, it’s DeLuties supplying the images. There are cameras stationed all over the field at different levels and different angles catching all the game action, but DeLuties is the guy with the handheld camera roving the sidelines providing those cheerleader shots, capturing the players as they run out on the field at the start of the game and all the other rituals that occur before the opening kickoff, during timeouts, at the half and after the game.Although he’s worked or been to a million big games over the years, DeLuties said everything is kicked up a notch, or 10, once the postseason gets going.”There’s nothing like it, where it’s a football game, a basketball game, a hockey game or a baseball game. It’s just a big difference going from the regular season to the playoffs,” DeLuties said.DeLuties said even though he’s done the job for years, he’s still in awe when he’s out on the field with 60,000 plus screaming fans cheering on the team.”It’s unbelievable,” he said. The St. Mary’s alum graduated from Emerson College in 1991 and spent the next 20 years working his way up in the business. At one time he was working a full-time job during the day and doing video for the Patriots, Bruins and Celtics at night. He was out every night, which was OK until he got married and started a family. DeLuties gave up the Celtics and Bruins, but kept the Patriots. He eventually started his own film-and-video production company 10 years ago called Lunchpail Productions, which is based in Boston.DeLuties said his years of doing video for Boston’s professional sports teams have opened many doors for him professionally. Although he doesn’t work any of the Super Bowls, he goes to all of them.Joyce Erekson can be reached at [email protected].
