The Tech boys and girls basketball teams were successful against Northeast Regional Tuesday with the boys winning 63-52 at Wakefield and the girls winning 43-21 at home.Tech boys coach Marvin Avery was very happy with his team’s performance.”My team is really starting to play great basketball now. The defensive pressure was phenomenal tonight. My young guys and old guys are starting to mesh nicely and it’s good to see winning results,” Avery said.Tech was up 28-22 at the half and never looked back. Leading the way for Tech was Mike Duarte with 21 points and eight assists. Sophomore Ronnie Williams had a strong game for Tech as well (16 pts, 8 rebounds). Tech (3-9) is now on a two-game winning streak, and plays Greater Lawrence Thursday.Salem 57, Everett 55At Salem, Salem found itself down six points with three minutes left and 48-47 with 30 seconds remaining when Jared Louf-Woods was fouled. Louf-Woods hit one of two free throws and tied the game 48-48, which put the game into overtime. Salem had the ball in overtime with 32 seconds left and the score tied 55-55. Salem’s Marvin Baez (19 pts, 6 rebounds, 5 assists) hit a foul-line jumper with just four seconds left to ice the game for the Witches. Christian Dunston had a strong game for Salem as well (13 pts, 7 rebounds, 5 assists). Salem is now 6-4.Malden Catholic 72, St. John’s 71At Malden Catholic, St. John’s was up 71-70 with 20 seconds left in the game. Malden Catholic’s Kyle Sangster hit a jumper from the foul line with two seconds on the clock to put the game away. Despite the loss, St. John’s Steve Haladyna recorded a monster double-double with 30 points and 17 rebounds. St. John’s is now 9-4.GIRLS BASKETBALLTech 43, Northeast 21At Lynn, the Tech girls basketball team had explosive offensive performances from Tori Park and Hattie Watkins. Park, a junior, had a career-high 14 points and Watkins chipped in with 15. Watkins also dominated the boards with 15 rebounds.Tech is 3-11. The Tiger junior varsity team won a thriller (its first win of the season), 22-21 over Northeast. The game went to double overtime where Rosemary Ramirez, who led the team with six points, hit the winning bucket.Notre Dame 46, Fenwick 33At Hingham, the Crusaders (6-7) couldn’t get much going in this one. Kate Lipka had 13 points, Maura Doyle, eight, and Gianna Pizzano, seven. Fenwick is 6-7.
