With a showdown with St. Mary’s looming on Saturday, one couldn’t blame the Winthrop girls hockey team if it was looking ahead to the Spartans coming to town. But the Bulldogs weren’t doing that and it showed on Wednesday.Led by five-point efforts from both Mackenzie Clark and Hannah LoPresti, Winthrop rolled to a 7-3 win over Medford at Larsen Arena.”It was a good win,” Winthrop coach Anthony Martucci said. “This could have been a trap game for us but the girls came out and played very well.”It didn’t take long for the Bulldogs (7-2-1) to get going as Clark scored just 75 seconds in. She added another goal at 4:15 before LoPresti made it 3-0 midway through the first before Medford got one back late.Clark netted a power play goal midway through the second to make it a three-goal game again before Medford’s Jen White scored on a penalty shot, cutting the gap to 4-2 after two.Clark restored order early in the third as her shorthanded goal at 59 seconds was followed by a Chelsey Bartlett goal to make it 6-2.
