With a showdown with St. Mary’s looming on Saturday, one couldn’t blame the Winthrop girls hockey team if it was looking ahead to the Spartans coming to town. But the Bulldogs weren’t doing that and it showed on Wednesday.Led by five-point efforts from both Mackenzie Clark and Hannah LoPresti, Winthrop rolled to a 7-3 win over Medford at Larsen Arena.”It was a good win,” Winthrop coach Anthony Martucci said. “This could have been a trap game for us but the girls came out and played very well.”It didn’t take long for the Bulldogs (7-2-1) to get going as Clark scored just 75 seconds in. She added another goal at 4:15 before LoPresti made it 3-0 midway through the first before Medford got one back late.Clark netted a power play goal midway through the second to make it a three-goal game again before Medford’s Jen White scored on a penalty shot, cutting the gap to 4-2 after two.Clark restored order early in the third as her shorthanded goal at 59 seconds was followed by a Chelsey Bartlett goal to make it 6-2. Medford cut the lead to three before Bartlett capped the scoring with just over a minute remaining.BOYS HOCKEYRockport 5, Swampscott 3At Talbot Rink in Gloucester, the Big Blue (6-6-2) couldn’t hold onto a 2-1 third period lead as the Vikings (10-2-0) scored three unanswered goals to take the two points.Corey Carmody, Gino Cresta and Matt Videtta had the goals for Swampscott.Lynnfield 5, Medford 2At McVann-O’Keefe Rink in Peabody, five different Pioneers (9-2-1) recorded goals as Lynnfield moved closer to clinching a state tournament berth. Greg Meiniger and Dylan Costa had a goal and two assists while John Festa had a goal and an assist.Craig Anderson and Joe Markey also recorded goals with Joe Bassi making 12 saves in goal.Beverly 2, Triton 0At Graf Rink in Newburyport, Connor Irving netted goals No. 12 and 13 of his season as the Panthers (6-5-1) upended the Cape Ann League leading Vikings (9-3-1) for the second time this season.The game was scoreless through two periods before Irving scored early in the third, assisted by Brenden Mitchell and Andrew Irving.
