Bail set at $7,500 for suspect in Saugus hit-and-run

LYNN _ Prosecutors said this morning that a Saugus woman charged in connection with the fatal hit-and-run of an 81-year-old man was texting when she crashed into Christos Agganis.Steffany Barbanti, 24, of 10 Cedar Glen Circle, Saugus, is charged with leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, resulting in death in connection with the fatal wreck on Central Street in Saugus on Jan. 28, 2010.”She allegedly left a helpless 81-year-old man outside,” said Assistant District Attorney Susan Dolhun, who requested $100,000 cash bail during a hearing this morning in Lynn District Court. “She has gone on with her life for the past two years while the [victim’s] family has been suffering.”Judge Albert Conlon set $7,500 cash bail for Barbanti.Read the complete story in Tuesday’s Daily Item.
