New flower shop blossoms in Revere

January 31, 2012 by Sara Brown

REVERE – When Kerri Abrams Rampelberg had her daughter she wanted a different career that would allow her to spend more time with her family. The practicing attorney decided to go back to a career she had known all her life.Growing up, her family owned a flower shop and it was something she took part in throughout her youth. She loved it so much that she decided she wanted to go back to it.Rampelberg recently opened Kinship Floral Design on Revere Street. The shop focuses on weddings, sympathy and special events.”The neighbors have been really welcoming here,” she said. “I love this side of town.”The new business owner knew immediately that she wanted the store’s focus to be on weddings and special events.”I really enjoy seeing how a bride reacts to her flowers,” Rampelberg said. “I love being able to put a smile on a bride’s face during her special day.”She also finds it personally rewarding to help families during their most difficult time, after the loss of a love one. “What more could you want in dark time than something so beautiful [as flowers],” Rampelberg said. When Rampelberg decided that she wanted to open up her own shop, she knew she wanted it to be in Revere. “I looked in other towns like Marblehead and Swampscottt but I really wanted it to be here,” she said, adding the city is making strides on economic development. “There are a lot of good things happening here,” she said. “I wanted to be apart of it. I know they are trying to get more economic development in the city and I think small businesses are the heart and soul of every city and can make a big impact.”She has seen some recent trends when it comes to what flowers brides choose for their weddings. She said antique pinks and purples are popular. “Also, brides now want a bouquet to throw for their bridesmaids to catch,” Rampelberg said. “For a while a lot of brides didn’t want to have that.”Bright flowers for funerals is another trend she is noticing. “People want to celebrate life with bright flowers,” Rampelberg said. “It is nice to see.”The store is getting ready for the biggest flower selling holiday around, Valentine’s Day.”We’re getting ready for war,” joked her brother, Corey Abrams, who helps out at the shop. “We are expecting a lot of business.”Rampelberg suggests tulips and orchards for someone looking to get their sweetheart flowers that are not the traditional red roses. “Those are a real show stopper to impress your significant other,” she said.Kinship Flower Shop is located at 245 Revere St., Revere.
