When they talk about the great games in the history of St. Mary’s basketball, the performance the Spartans put up in the second half against Arlington Catholic will long be remembered.Nick Gagliolo scored 26 of his game high 29 points in the second half, going over the 1,000 point mark in the process, as the Spartans put up an astounding 60 points to turn a 35-18 deficit into a 78-63 win over the Cougars.”That was clearly a tail of two halves,” joked Spartans coach Kevin Moran. “These kids dug down somewhere deep and all the credit goes to them. What they did is something I haven’t seen in a long time.”Gagliolo entered the game needing 15 points to reach the 1,000 mark and from the way things began, it was looking like it would wait until Friday to happen. AC led 12-7 after one and extended the lead to 35-18 thanks to ice cold shooting from the Spartans. After regrouping at halftime, what happened for St. Mary’s (13-3) over the next 16 minutes can only be described as astounding.Gagliolo and Devin Thompson would combine to score 38 second half points as St. Mary’s put up 28 third quarter points to tie the game. That was just a warm-up, though, as they added 32 more in the fourth period to blow the doors off the Cougars.”It’s fantastic that Nick did what he did (Monday),” Moran said. “It was obvious early that he was pressing it a bit, but he settled down and the flow of the game got him his points.”Tommy Deveau added 12 points and Matt Manning finished with 10 for the Spartans, who now sit atop the CCL Large standings.Chelsea 69, Peabody 67At Chelsea, it was another battle to the finish between the Red Devils and Tanners as the hosts picked up their second two- point win over Peabody in a little over a week.Mike Gould and Steve Girolamo led Peabody (7-7) with 21 points.
