The Swampscott hockey team broke out of its scoring funk in about as big a way as possible on Wednesday at Cronin Rink in Revere.Gino Cresta had a seven-point game and Matt Videtta added a six-point performance as the Big Blue scored six second-period goals en route to an 11-5 win over the Patriots.”We’ve been struggling lately to put the puck in but this was one of those games where everything we shot was going in,” Swampscott coach Gino Faia said.The Big Blue (8-7-3, 5-5-2 NEC South) led 2-1 after a period before exploding for four goals in the first 3:12 of the second period. In all, the teams would score six times in the first eight minutes of the middle stanza.Cresta had a hat trick and four assists while Videtta had three goals and three assists. Trevor Massey dished out four assists with Chris Dandreo netting two goals.Revere (3-8-4, 1-7-4) got a goal and an assist from Cam Whalen.Winthrop 3, Saugus 0At Larsen Arena in Winthrop, Dan Eruzione scored twice and Chris LeBlanc had two assists as the defending NEC North champion Vikings (9-5-2, 8-2-2) got a much needed win over the Sachems (9-5-2, 8-2-2).With the win, Winthrop now sits two points out of first in the North after Danvers’ loss to Beverly.Marblehead 5, Lynn 3At Connery Rink, the Jets led 2-1 after the first period, but Marblehead rattled off three unanswered goals in the second to take the lead for good.Marblehead drew first blood when Eric Powers scored an unassisted goal 5:51 into the game. The Jets retaliated with goals by John Finnigan (unassisted) and Tony Uva (Mark Brazell had the assist).It was all Magicians in the middle period. Trevor Jones, Tom Koopman and Powers scored to give Marblehead a 4-2 lead. Lynn got one back when Finnigan scored his second of the night in the final period, but Marblehead put the game away with a Ty Bates goal less than a minute later.Michael Gately (33 shots, 28 saves) was in net for Lynn (6-8-2). The Jets need to win three of their next four games to qualify for the tournament. They have Swampscott, Attleboro, Salem and Rockport on the schedule.”We hung in there. Joe Bassi made 12 saves to get the shutout.Beverly 5, Danvers 3At Rockett Arena, Danvers has only lost three games this season, and after last night, two have been to Beverly. The Panthers, who qualified for the tournament with the win, led 3-0 after the first period and 4-1 through two. Freshman Tim Biarelli had a big game net with 34 saves. Offensively, Connor Irving had two goals and three assists for the Panthers and Brenden Mitchell had two goals and an assist.Beverly is 10-5-1, 7-4 Northeastern Conference North.
