IAABO basketball tournament on tap

The second annual IAABO Board 130 Classic will be played Sunday, Feb. 19, and Monday, Feb. 20, at Central Catholic High School in Lawrence.The boys division includes defending champion Central Catholic, Lynn English, St. John’s Prep and Westford Academy. A girls division has been added this year, and it includes Archbishop Williams, Central Catholic, Pentucket and Revere.The schedule is as follows: Revere vs. Pentucket girls, 2 p.m.; Archbishop Williams vs. Central Catholic, girls, 3:45 p.m.; Westford Academy vs. St. John’s Prep boys, 5:30 p.m., and English vs. Central Catholic boys, 7:15 p.m.On Monday, the girls consolation game is at 2 p.m.; the boys consolation game is at 3:45 p.m.; the girls championship game is at 5:30 p.m. and the boys championship game is at 7:15 p.m. A player from each team will receive a scholarship.”That’s why we decided to run a tournament,” IAABO Board 130 President Hal Geary said. “We want to be able to help student-athletes while showcasing some great talent.”The main sponsor of this year’s tournament is Weston & Sampson, a Peabody-based full-service environmental and infrastructure consulting firm.IAABO Board 130 is an Essex County-based chapter of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials. The organization has more than 400 members who officiate basketball games from the youth to collegiate levels.
