Overcoming a 2-0 deficit, the St. Mary’s girls hockey team tied reigning Division 2 state champion Duxbury, 2-2, at The Bog in Kingston this past weekend.Goaltender Lauren Skinnion excelled, finishing with 27 saves – 17 of them in the second period alone – for St. Mary’s (15-3-1).”She was tremendous, especially in the second period. They really came after us but Lauren kept us in the game and gave us a chance to come back,” said coach Frank Pagliuca. “They’re a very good team, one of the best we’ve faced this year.”The Green Dragons grabbed a 2-0 lead on second-period goals by Hannah Murphy and Jane Dudley, but Kaleigh Finigan gave the Spartans life with a goal in the final minute of the period. The Magicians rolled over Peabody Saturday, 12-2, and followed up with a tight 2-1 decision over Cambridge on Sunday to run their overall record to 11-7-2.At McVann-O’Keefe, Marblehead got double hat tricks from Eliza Quigley and Casey McDonald and a pair of goals each from Meg Gray, Rachel McKay and Brittany Smith in the rout of Peabody.Laura Miele and Waverly Cohen scored for the Tanners.At Rockett Arena, Marblehead spotted Cambridge a 1-0 first-period lead but prevailed on second-period tallies from Katie Zarinsky and Brittany Smith. Senior captains Ally Healy, Casey McDonald, Keelin Fallon and Zarinsky were honored in the final home game of the season. Marblehead concludes the regular season Thursday at Bishop Fenwick.Chelmsford 6, Winthrop 3At Chelmsford Forum, the Lady Bulldogs (13-3-1) had their nine-game winning streak snapped by the Lions (13-3-3). Chelmsford opened a 4-1 lead through two periods but the Bulldogs battled back to within a goal on third-period strikes from Mackenzie Clark (two assists) and Vanessa Vanbuskirk. Chelmsford put it away with two goals in the final two minutes. Caroline McKinnon also scored for the Bulldogs. Shots were even at 32 apiece.”They played very well – they outworked us and they finished their chances. They are a good team,” said coach Anthony Martucci of Chelmsford.Westford Academy 3, Beverly 1At Groton School, the Panthers (8-7-2) turned in a solid effort but couldn’t match the high-powered Grey Ghosts (15-2-2). Goalie Jenna Lovasco was stellar with 43 saves and Caitlin McBride scored in the first period, assisted by Nicole Woods.In other action, Bishop Fenwick suffered a 6-0 road loss to Norwood.
