LYNN – A Chevrolet pickup truck crashed through a fence and struck the front of a house near downtown Lynn Sunday morning around 1:40 a.m. causing property damage and a potential safety hazard to residents in the area, according to Lynn Police Lt. Tom Reddy.Police responded to the scene, where the truck struck a fire hydrant at the corner of Marianna and Jackson streets before crashing through a fence and into the front left side of a house at 150 Marianna St., Reddy said. There was also damage to a fence and a porch at neighboring houses. An ambulance transported the driver, whom Reddy did not identify, to Salem Hospital with jaw and chest injuries. The actual cause of the crash is unknown pending an investigation. Police issued the driver a citation for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, Reddy said?No one witnessed it and he allegedly didn?t remember [what happened],” Reddy said. The Lynn Fire Department evacuated the homes surrounding the crash soon after the accident as a precaution because they detected a natural gas leak coming from one of the homes, Reddy said. He did not know when the families had been allowed back into their homes.A building inspector evaluated damages, and Action Emergency Services made temporary repairs to the structure. The front porch had been removed from 150 Marianna St. by Sunday afternoon.Taylor Provost can be reached at [email protected].
