SAUGUS – Saugus firefighters put out a small fire that started in the kitchen of a home on Lincoln Court, according to Fire Chief James Blanchard.Blanchard said the call came in around 3:15 p.m., after a pot on the stove was left unattended. He said a young mother and her infant were not hurt.?The fire went up the wall,” said Blanchard. “There were no injuries, but the fire made a mess of the house with the smoke and everything. The stove was ruined and the hood and the cabinets. Most fires start in the kitchen because people aren?t staying with their cooking or whatever is on the stove.”Blanchard said the firefighters, led by Capt. Donald Shea, responded right away and did a good job extinguishing the fire.?They stretched a line in and knocked the fire right down,” said Blanchard. “Everything was thoroughly extinguished. The mother and the infant both got out of the house OK and were outside when we arrived.”Matt Tempesta can be reached at [email protected].
