Matt Tempesta

March 3, 2012 by Matt Tempesta

LYNN – Lynn Police released surveillance photos Friday of a suspect they say robbed the Century Bank on State Street in Lynn Wednesday afternoon.Lt. Christopher Kelly described the suspect as a light-skinned black male wearing charcoal gray sweat pants and a black vest over a gray and black hooded sweatshirt.Kelly said the suspect fled on foot toward the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority garage on Union Street.”We can’t say at this point whether or not he got on any of the trains,” said Kelly.Kelly said the bank has been robbed before, the last robbery taking place in April of 2011.Kelly declined to say how much money was taken or how the suspect robbed the bank.”Early on in the investigation (detectives) don’t like to give out information about the way they conduct the robbery,” said Kelly. “It’s still an ongoing investigation and they don’t want to tip their hand to the potential suspect. It’s a position of strength for us not to give that information.”Kelly said anyone with information should contact the Lynn Police Department at 781-595-2000 or they can text an anonymous tip by texting the word “tiplynn” and the tip information to tip411 or 847411. Anonymous web tips can also be submitted at lynnpolice.org.Kelly said the suspect “could be armed” and warned residents not to approach him.Matt Tempesta can be reached at [email protected].
