Bank heist suspect to be arraigned

LYNN – One of the suspects involved in the Friday robbery of a Saugus bank and ensuing police chase that left one man dead will be arraigned in Lynn District Court Monday morning, Essex District Attorney Spokesperson Carrie Kimball-Monahan said Sunday.Michael Ginnietti, 38, of Winthrop, is set to be arraigned in Lynn on a charge of armed robbery out of Saugus.Click for a photo gallery of the Friday manhunt.Gabriel Megna, 48, of East Boston, will be arraigned in Malden District Court on charges of armed carjacking, assault with a dangerous weapon and receiving a stolen motor vehicle, according to Middlesex District Attorney Spokesperson Cara O’Brien.O’Brien said a third suspect, 35-year-old William Ekasala of East Boston died during a shootout with police in a Malden parking lot shortly after the bank robbery.At about 4:48 p.m. Friday, three armed men robbed Saugus Bank at 412 Lynn Fells Parkway, and then fled to a parking lot on Broadway in Malden, where they got out of their getaway car, O’Brien said. Shortly after 5 p.m., Saugus and Malden police chased them through another parking lot near the 500 Broadway area in Malden, according to O’Brien.Police remained on the search for the two other suspects and, by 8 p.m., they had arrested Ginnietti and Megna.Witnesses in the area described a chaotic scene Friday.Soleil Diakaba, 24, said he was at his friend’s house a block from the Granada Highlands apartment complex off of Route 99 in Malden when he said he heard about 10 gunshots.”I seen a lot of police cars coming up here and one of the persons got caught right around the corner,” said Diakaba, who lives in the complex. “He had a bullet proof vest on and he was pretty big.”O’Brien said the investigation remains ongoing and her office will investigate the police justifiability of the shooting per protocol.Matt Tempesta contributed to this report.Amber Parcher can be reached at [email protected].
