One of two bank robbery suspects held on $1 million bail

MALDEN – A suspect in Friday’s armed robbery of a bank in Saugus was ordered held on $1 million cash bail Monday morning during a hearing in Malden District Court.Police arrested Gabriel Megna, 48, of East Boston, Friday evening after prosecutors say he and two other men robbed the Saugus Bank on Lynn Fells Parkway at gunpoint. Another suspect, Michael Ginnietti, 38, of Winthrop, is scheduled to be arraigned sometime today in Lynn District Court.Police shot and killed William Ekasala, 35, of East Boston, following a pursuit and shootout with the three suspects.Prosecutors said police foundMegna “cowering” under a stairwell at an apartment building in Malden.Megna, who has a previous manslaughter conviction, according to family members, is charged with armed carjacking, assault with a dangerous weapon and receiving a stolen motor vehicle in connection with the bank robbery.Read Tuesday’s Daily Item for complete coverage of the story.
