Andrew Ruby provided the Bishop Fenwick boys lacrosse team with the offensive spark it needed in a 12-2 win over the combined English/Classical team Thursday at Bishop Fenwick.”This was probably our first complete effort,” Fenwick coach Leo Shidler said. “We’ve played one or two good quarters, but this was the first time we’ve played four solid quarters.”Lynn coach Peter Pappagianopoulos said his team, coming off a night game on Wednesday, played pretty well. Zack Foley had two goals for Lynn with Jarred Chen, Sean Gately and Alex Amico accounting for the others. Anthony Baio had a solid game in net despite the loss.The Crusaders also had a big night offensively from Kyle Russell (3 goals), Will Clancy of Lynn (goal) and Nick Coccoluto (goal).Lynn is 0-3 and Fenwick is 2-2.St. John’s 9, BC High 7At Danvers, this one was a battle from start to finish with The Prep (2-0) leading 5-4 at the half and BC High closing to within a goal at 8-7 in the fourth quarter.”It was a tight game the whole way,” Prep coach John Ray said. “BC High is always a difficult opponent. The Witches led 5-3 at the half.BASEBALLChelsea 8, Tech 3At Fraser Field, the game was tied 2-2 after five innings, but Chelsea scored three in the sixth and three in the seventh to ice the win. Wilber Pena got the start for the Tigers and went three innings. Elvis Aquino went the next two and Billy Colon the final two.Aquino (RBI double), Alejandro Guzman (double) and Santos Morales (single) accounted for the Tigers’ three hits. This was Tech’s season opener.SOFTBALLChelsea 17, Tech 10At Chelsea, the Red Devils led 1-0 until the third inning when they racked up seven runs. Tech, however, scored nine in the top of the fourth to take a 9-8 lead. Chelsea pulled away with five runs in the fifth and four in the sixth.The Tiger defense was on the ball with four double plays. Third baseman Rallanny Diaz (3-for-5, 2 RBI) snagged a line drive and stepped on third for one of the double plays. Second baseman Jessica Ventura doubled a runner off first. The pitcher doubled a runner off third and the shortstop caught a runner off third as well.Ryce Colon, who pitched six innings and fanned three, also went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Tori Park pitched the seventh.Lynnfield 3, Newton South 0At Newton South, Melody Mancinelli allowed only four hits (walking none and fanning six) in the Pioneers’ season-opening win. She also had two singles, as did Katie Rowe and Sarah Flood. Teammate Jade Palladino hit a shot to the gap in left-center that went for a two-run home run. Senior pinch-hitter Julie Sheehan drove in the insurance run in the sixth.GIRLS TENNISSt. Mary’s 3, Pope John 2At GEEAA Field, senior Kat Troisi won her third match in a row, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 1. Alyssa Graham and Annabelle Feliz won at first doubles, 6-4, 6-2 (their first varsity win) and Jillian Smith-Lily Gardner won 6-1, 6-2, in the deciding match at second doubles (their first varsity win). St. Mary’s is 2-1.Austin Prep 3, Bishop Fenwick 2At Peabody, Demi Velonis won at third singles, 7-5, 6-4, and the first doubles team of Jess Griffin-Sara Kanarkiewicz won 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. The match came down to second singles, where Meredith Maguire battled three sets before losing 7-6, 4-6, 3-6.
