April 27, 2012 by jdistefano

Peabody pitcher Patrick Ruotolo blanked the Marblehead bats all night long, as Ruotolo tossed a no-hitter in Peabody’s 3-0 win at Marblehead Thursday night.Peabody coach Mark Bettencourt was very impressed with Ruotolo’s performance.”Ruotolo was exceptional today. My team did not play the best game in the world on the offensive side, but Ruotolo’s dominance really hid our mistakes. Marblehead is a very good team as well, which makes Ruotolo’s performance that much more special,” Bettencourt said.Ruotolo finished with a line of seven innings, 13 strikeouts, three walks, and zero hits. The Peabody offense broke a scoreless tie in the second inning, when Frank Lowry hit an RBI double that scored George Tsonis to make the score 1-0. In the third inning, the bases were loaded and Tsonis hit a sac fly that scored Genaro Ciulla. Aaron Comak then hit an RBI single that scored Casey Grenier and made the score 3-0. Peabody has won eight in a row (8-2).Masconomet 4, Lynnfield 3At Lynnfield, the Pioneers spotted the Chieftains a 4-0 lead before mounting a late-inning rally, but it was too little, too late.Lynnfield (5-2) finally came to life in the fifth, on successive singles by Chris Lang, B.J. Neil and Alec Vittum, the latter knocking in a run. However, the Pioneers left two runners on base.In the seventh, Masco walked Connor Lordan, Neil and Peter Franchi to load the bases before Dylan Costa delivered a two-run single.”But,” said coach John O’Brien, “we couldn’t get the tying run home.”Franchi went six innings, giving up two earned runs, striking out four, and giving up six hits. Steve Lamb pitched a 1-2-3 seventh.Lynnfield is home Saturday against Malden, and it’s Babe Ruth Day. The team will host a cookout after the game for all Lynnfield Babe Ruth players.Beverly 15, Danvers 1At Danvers, it was 0-0 through three innings. The Panthers exploded for five runs in the fourth inning and seven runs in the fifth inning to run and hide from the Falcons. Beverly pitcher Alex Toomey stymied the Danvers bats all night long (7 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 0 earned runs). Providing the offense for Beverly were Cam Rogers (3 hits), Kevin Cuneo (home run, 3 RBI) and Sam Shorr (2 RBI). Beverly is now 5-3.
