Lacrosse: Tech boys win in double OT

The Tech boys lacrosse team needed double overtime to put away Mystic Valley 6-5 at Manning Field Thursday night.Tech coach Jay Richards was happy with his team’s performance.”It was good for my team to beat Mystic Valley. Mystic Valley is usually a monster in the conference and this is my fist time one of my teams have come out on top,” Richards said.Tech’s Jason Grant scored the game-winning goal with just 1:52 left in the second overtime. Jeremy Quinton led the way for Tech (4 goals). Grant added two goals of his own. Dan Gorman, Dan Enos, Dan Haggerty and Mike Lora patrolled the Tech defense. Tech is now 4-3.Peabody 10, Swampscott 9At Blocksidge Field, the Big Blue led until the final two minutes when Nick Ouellette (2 goals) tied the game. With about 30 seconds remaining, Josh Fiore found Eric Hennessy (2 goals) for the game-winner. Fiore had a goal and an assist and Kiefer Heckman notched five goals and three assists.Swampscott never led by more than a goal in a game that was tied several times. Matt Gambale had four goals, Billy Valle, two goals; Patrick Kennedy, two goals, and Josh Rothwell, one goal. Max Cohen had 10 saves.Danvers 10, Saugus 6At Danvers, the Falcons had a 10-6 lead at the half. Jack Doyle led the way for Danvers (4 goals). Joe Russo and Nick Taylor both had two goals each for the Sachems (2-7). Sean Gilman had a strong day for the Sachems (2 assists). Cody Martin had a strong game in net (19 saves).St. John’s 11, Malden Catholic 0At Malden Catholic, St. John’s was fast out of the gates and never slowed down. Leading the way for St. John’s was Dan Mini (3 goals, 1 assist). Joey Cavallaro had a strong performance (3 goals). Mike Harris had no problem distributing the ball (1 goal, 4 assists). Andrew Gallahue (2 goals, 1 assist) and Drew O’Connell (2 goals) rounded out the St. John’s attack. St. John’s is now 7-2.GIRLS LACROSSEMarblehead 12, Peabody 11At Peabody, Peabody was down 6-2 in the early stages of the game, but never went away and found itself tied 11-11 with under a minute left. Marblehead won a draw and put in the game-winning goal right after. Leading the way for Peabody (5-2) was Nicole Napolitano (4 goals, 1 assist). Sarah Napolitano had a strong performance (2 goals). Bianca Muscato (1 goal, 2 assists) and Mikayla York rounded out the Peabody offense. For Marblehead, Tyler Phillips led the way (5 goals, 1 assist). Kiley Fischer, Eliza Quigley and Meggie Collins all scored two goals each for Marblehead.Swampscott 15, Gloucester 10At Swampscott, the Big Blue had an 8-3 lead at the half. Leading the way for Swampscott was Jessie DePaolo (5 goals). Katie Zarinsky, Bridget Lawless and Gillian Trask all had three goals each for Swampscott. Samantha Coogan had a strong game in net (15 saves). Swampscott is now 4-5.
