The St. Mary’s baseball team lost a heartbreaker to Spellman in the last inning, as Spellman defeated St. Mary’s 2-1 at Brockton Monday.It was a scoreless tie entering the top of the seventh inning. St. Mary’s Zach Conti led the inning off with a walk. Conti stole second and went to third on a passed ball. Brendan Mageary executed a perfect suicide squeeze, to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the game unraveled. St. Mary’s pitching hit two players, walked one, and the defense dropped a fly ball in left field. Josue Perez had a strong day at the plate (single, 2 RBI). Leading the way for the Swampscott offense was Matt Videtta (2 hits, 2 walks, 3 runs scored, 4 RBI) and Robert Serino (3 hits, 2 runs scored, 2 RBI). Swampscott is now 7-3.Danvers 18, Revere 2At Danvers, the Falcons had plenty of offense. Leading the Danvers offensive explosion was Nick Valles (3-3, 2 doubles, 5 RBI). Tyler Dustin had a strong performance for the Falcons (2 hits, double, 4 RBI). Sophomore Brandon Hyde picked up another win on the mound (4 innings, 2 runs, 2 hits, 2 walks). Danvers is now 9-2.St. John’s 5, Xaverian 4At St. John’s, St. John’s scored all of its five runs in the first two innings, which made the score 5-0 St. John’s. Xaverian scored four runs of its own between the fourth and fifth innings and made the score 5-4. St. John’s reliever Dustin Hunt was able to shut down Xaverian in the sixth and seventh innings to preserve the win (2.1 innings, 1 strikeout, 1 walk, 0 hits). Leading the St. John’s offense was Brendan Bingel (2 hits, 3 RBI). St. John’s is now 10-2.Gloucester 6, Peabody 2At Gloucester, the Fishermen produced a five-run fifth inning and never looked back.
